Cedarbranch gave a smirk. She was the prank master, maybe not the most creative cat, but she could pull off anything she can think of. Gingerly, she picked up the lump of thorns and looked to find Antwhiskers nest. The siblings used to sleep next to each other, but Cedarbranch grew tired of his kicking and snoring. Spotting the one with tufts of black fur, she hurried over and gave it a sniff. 'That's Antwhiskers alright.' Chuckling to herself, she used her paw to lift the nest up. She didn't want her brother to notice before he even laid down in the nest, so she made sure to hide the thorns a bit. After getting the thorns hidden and in place, she pawed the nest. It was barely noticeable. 'Perfect.' He wouldn't notice until he woke up the next morning with a few scratches. Obviously proud of herself, she looked around to make sure Antwhisker, or any of his friends, didn't notice. Not seeing anybody, she returned to the spot she had eaten her lizard at. "My job here is done. Now to wait to get yelled at tomorrow morning." She meowed, giving a small yawn.

(Sorry for the really long poof. Jazz band rehearsals and performances and internal screaming.)
Oakstep tilted his head slightly in confusion, furrowing his eyebrows. He wondered why he wasn't chosen for a moment, but brushed the question away.I wouldn't be able to handle the situation anyway. I would freak out and just be a waste of space. The fur on his tail however gave away his unease. The brown tom never took death lightly. Even if he never considered himself close to anyone, it had a more reaching effect on him then he would readily admit. "So, Um...What do we do?" Oakstep shifted nervously from one side to the other.
Frostpaw felt detached from her body as her paws carried her with the patrol. Her mind was a hurricane of confusion, circling around and never actually getting anywhere. She wanted to help in any way that she could, but her instincts still told her to go and get herbs. To gather cobwebs. However, she knew that it was not her place. Not her calling. So she just followed the other cats, keeping her glazed blue eyes ahead of her and trying to clear her head of the storm.

Geistwisp was nearly comatose. Her body felt as ghostly as her name, on autopilot. She didn't even remember solemnly leaving the camp at a break-neck pace. She didn't quite understand why she was so shaken by this at first--after all, she had no real affinity to Bearcharge and didn't even remember who else was on his patrol--but it was starting to become clearer to her now. AstralClan, at least in her lifetime, felt as though it was in a cloud, sheltered from harm. Nothing bad ever happened before, so this was surreal. His gurgling, blood-churning body begging her for help kept playing again and again in her mind. The only thing she kept hearing was 'they're all dead'. Now, of course, she would try to be optimistic. Perhaps the others of the patrol were just fine, and the large tom was talking about whatever attacked them. However, her positivity, meek and minute as it was, would completely fizzle out when the patrol would arrive back on the scene.

It was a bloodbath. Nightweaver felt nauseous as the scent of blood washed over him like a storm wind and distracted him from everything else. It was revolting. He looked at the clearing with horror and he felt his body freeze for a moment when he spotted three very familiar bodies splayed on the ground. His warriors... He couldn't even tell if they were dead or alive from this distance. This was supposed to be a simple border patrol. How could the Risen have let this happen?
"Frostpaw, Mossfreckle! Go check Bearcharge! Wolfgaze, Drizzledance, take Pearseed!", the leader barked in a high, rough voice as he bound over to where Coldfire was laying without waiting to see if they followed his orders. He hesitated before steeling his nerves and approaching her. It was obvious that she was dead from the vacancy in her eyes but he had to check anyway. He laid his head on her side, trying to avoid any drying blood, and listened for a heartbeat. A few tense moments passed before he pulled back with wide eyes. He took in the pool of blood and claw marks at her throat. They were definitely from another cat. He had piked up a subtle scent on her fur that shouldn't be there but he just couldn't place it. "Oh Coldfire..." he sighed mournfully before calling to the others that their clan mate had fallen. The wail he head from Drizzledance pierced him like lightning and he knew that Pearseed had followed Coldfire.
--
Drizzledance didn't need an order form his leader to rush though the blood dusted clearing to his sister. His sister who he had woken up and prodded not to miss her patrol only this morning. This was his fault. If he just let her sleep in, she wouldn't have gotten hurt. He went right to her face and nosed at her cheek urgently trying to wake her. "Pearseed?" he squeaked in the meekest voice he had ever used. His eyes took in the large chunk taken out of her neck and began to paw at his sisters body. "Pearseed, its okay! We can fix you. Wake up!" he pleaded. His voice cracked before he let out a wail of grief and knelt next to his littermate.

"You hit a rough patch, thats all. You two are at different places in your lives right now. It will work itself out." Wildcreek told him as she trotted towards him. He rubbed her cheek against his own with a purr and settled at his side away from the cliff. "Hes probably going to get an apprentice soon, so he will perk up. And you", she flicked his nose with her tail as she paused, "will work on getting your bearings again." She was hoping once he got more comfortable walking around using sight an sound, she would be able to convince Nightweaver and the deputies to let her teach him how to hunt again. He would never be able to go out alone, of course, but at least he would feel less helpless.

Breathing had never been so difficult. In the sluggish passage of time after Geistwisp discovered him, it felt like the air had become thicker and thicker. His body was broken, burning, and he still couldn't comprehend how such a strong tom like him had been so weak. It was then that he realized he was again paralyzed on his side, but he hadn't remembered the feel of hitting the ground. Bloodshot eyes moved at a icy pace to look at the forms of his fallen clanmates. Reddish tears threatened to blur Bearcharge's fading vision further. 'I'm sorry... I'm so...I'm-I'm so sorry...' Failure hurt more than his numerous injuries, even as crimson gurgled from within his throat. He closed his eyes and waited for the pain and guilt to end... But it refused to. As his consciousness waned, he heard familiar voices, but it only deepened his sorrow to know what they were seeing.

Frostpaw glanced over her shoulder to the brown haired tom and felt her heart catch in her throat. Through her panic, she almost didn't see Bearcharge, but her brother. Lying there. Dying. Any frame of mind the silver tabby previously had gave to her instincts. Tears began to cloud her vision and flood from her eyes as she made a mad dash for him. Drizzledance's wails cut through the silence. He had lost his sibling. Only in this moment did it dawn on Frostpaw that this was the life her brother had chosen. The life she had chosen. Her paws barely stopped in front of him. "Okay, okay, okay. I can do this..." She looked around for anything that could help. She swathed her paw in nearby cobwebs and started to treat the wounds. There's no way I can carry him. I don't know how to act like a warrior. This is all I know. Her wariness about whether she was a warrior or medicine cat apprentice surrendered itself to all her previous training.

Wolfgaze felt a chill wash over her as she moved to obey Nightweaver's orders. Drizzledance had reached Pearseed before her, and Wolfgaze slowed down several tail-lengths behind him. She flinched as he pleaded for Pearseed to wake up, knowing that was impossible. "I'm sorry," she whispered, touching her nose to the fallen warrior's flank. Looking up after a few moments, Wolfgaze noticed that the other members of Pearseed's patrol had not fared any better. She felt a sudden surge of anger at whoever had murdered her Clanmates so ruthlessly, looking around the blood soaked clearing for possible clues as to what could have done it.

... ↪ · Duckthorn, Cloudchaser | Camp w/ Cedarbranch -- When for whatever reason Cedarbranch actually returned to the spot where Duckthorn resided, another cat had already joined him. It was Cloudchaser, whom the ginger tom finally tracked down and waved over to tell him about his findings of Honeythroat's scent at the Falls. His brother's expression couldn't quite be made out, potentially due to conflicted feelings. The white-and-orange tom flickered his strange gaze into something more innocent when Cedarbranch approached. "Heh, what did you do?" he asked in an attempt to distract himself from the disturbing news. Duckthorn rasped his tongue on the back of his paw in an attempt to ignore her, but he couldn't help but look up in curiosity a few times to pay attention to what she did with the thorn-filled moss.
--
· Asterwing | Mountainside w/ Oakstep -- It was only a little upsetting that Oakstep was asking her out to do something but hadn't a clue what to make of it. Since when did it become her job to decide? Asterwing shuffled on her paws a little, but ultimately stalked outside of the camp and down the mountain just a bit to squint her eyes at the cats that were sprinting away. "I'd suggest we follow them, but they're pretty far ahead already. Wonder what's got them all running so fast?" she mumbled the last part aloud. Of course the gravity from the descent down the mountainside probably had something to do with it. Asterwing peeked back at Oakstep from over her shoulder. What a strange tom. They'd been friends for so long, yet he couldn't stop weaseling his movements around so shyly.
--
· Mossfreckle | Shrouded Forest w/ Patrols -- That was her apprentice; raised like a son alongside her nephews. Her face pressed down onto Bearcharge's chest. The breathing was faint, but present. Her expression screwed up at the the gashed side of his face—gashed being an understatement. He needed help, but Mossfreckle wasn't so sure she could get him back up the mountain in time. He was bleeding out rather quickly.
Where had Bearcharge run into Geistwisp before coming back here? The young she-cat hadn't mentioned anything about Pearseed and Coldfire. By the wails and saddened atmosphere, Mossfreckle could tell that her former apprentice was the best faired. This was her fault, she was the one that arranged this border patrol. There was no time to dwell though. The deputy shouldered underneath the large dark-brown tom with grunts underneath the weight.
With the blood dripping off Bearcharge already seeping into her fur, Mossfreckle laid her eyes on Frostpaw, who had been mosying nearby without a clue. "I need you to...keep using those cobwebs and...find even more," she instructed the former medicine cat apprentice, pausing whenever she shifted the heavy warrior on her back with a sharp inhale. Slowly she stepped in a circle to see how the others were doing but ultimately started heading back to camp. She could grieve for Pearseed and Coldfire later. Bearcharge still had a chance of being saved as long as Frostpaw could cover his wounds on the way up the mountain.

Nightweaver watched Mossfreckle take Bearcharge and Frostpaw will her and decided to survey the clearing for a few more minutes before herding everyone else back to the camp. Drizzledance seemed to be completely out of it and refused to leave his sister but maybe Wolfgaze and Geistwisp could help him find some clues. He signaled Wolfgaze with his tail before heading over to the younger she-cat. "Geistwisp, did you see anything when you found Bearcharge? Hear anything, even catch a scent?" he asked her sternly to try and make her focus.

Wolfgaze shot one last glance at Pearseed before rising to her feet and padding silently over to Nightweaver. She averted her eyes from the other two warriors' bodies, choosing to stare at the ground instead. She looked up when she reached her leader's side and the two of them approached Geistwisp. The gray she-cat curled her tail around her forepaws quietly, waiting to hear if the warrior had any information on who could have done all of this.

Geistwisp felt completely numb. Her eyes took in the scene, but she did not see. She detected the harsh taint of blood, but did not smell it. Gaze glazed over, she floated forward until stopping at Nightweaver's far away voice. For far too many heartbeats she simply stared at her leader. "No..." She whispered but still before she fully understood his words. The answer was not a lie though. She remembered only Bearcharge erupting from the brush. He must have dragged himself over to the others before he passed out, like a protective gargoyle in the sunlight. Funny how that logic could come to her but nought a moment of the clearing before them now.

"Alright...follow Mossfreckle and go see Batrain. That is an order." Nightweaver told her and gave her a firm nudge towards the path they had followed. His deputy and her charges could only be a little bit away so he was sure the young warrior wouldn't get lost. With a sigh, the leader turned back to Wolfgaze and frowned. That left them to the task of trying to find clues.
"Wolfgaze, I need you to help me search the clearing then. Look for fur, tracks, even scents that seem odd." he told her. "I'll start from this side and you take the other. Meet in the middle."

Frostpaw took a strained deep breath and bounded around, gathering more and more cobwebs. She continued to press them into his wounds, an eerie calmness settling over her. Every now and then she would leap to a bush and pull a large leaf from it attempting to cover the wounds with them and shield them from infection. Her teeth were gritted together and grinding. Reaching up, the silver tabby pressed her muzzle into Bearcharge's cheek, fully that he could not hear her. "You're going to need to fight to get through this. Don't give up. We need you."
Oakstep's green eyes fixed on the cats and narrowed slightly. "They do seem to be in a bit of a hurry." His claws scored into the rock. A slight frown etched it's way onto the muzzle of the brown tom. "I'm with you. Following them may not be a bad idea. We should at least see what all the hustle is about." He glanced at the she-cat and gave her a reassuring nod. Though he wouldn't say it out loud for the sake of his dignity, it was nice to have her there. Despite his initial tension, he felt himself start to relax. He had nothing to be afraid of. All he had to do, was not be weird.

Wolfgaze nodded, setting off on her loop around the clearing. She nosed around the roots of trees, between bushes, and along patches of grass turned red. The overwhelming scent of blood in some patches of the clearing seemed to seep into her throat and soak into her fur, making Wolfgaze feel like she would need to bathe for hours to rid herself of it. She paused several pawsteps away from one of the fallen warriors, although she didn't want to look up and see who it was. A strange scent was leading away from the body, seeming to wind around the clearing. She froze, looking around into the surrounding woods. What if the killer hasn't left? she wondered, scanning the trees as her heart hammered in her chest.

Raventail visibly winced at the mention of Webtangle getting an apprentice- not that he wouldn't be happy for his best friend, of course he would but the lore keeper had been waiting for moons to train one. Now that opportunity was gone, he'd be lucky if he could sneak out of the camp and hunt without someone elses supervision, so there was no way he'd ever be able to get an apprentice, at least until a kit has been chosen to be the next lore keeper. Even then I doubt anyone would let me train that apprentice without supervision. he thought bitterly, tail lashing into a pile of leaves as his nose was flicked. He glanced up, clearly surprised when she mentioned getting his bearings. "It's just frustrating, I hate when he gets like this." He admitted with a scowl.

((I think this is all but if I am missing someone let me know. Im gonna work on the update a bit before doing these.))
Nightweaver made his way to Wolfgaze, his face scrunched up in anger as he went. The scent of blood and the border scent markers was clogging his senses. He couldn't catch any strong scent trail and all the paw prints he found could have been from old patrols coming through. He couldn't find anything!
"Wolfgaze, did you find anything?" he called out as he approached but froze when he saw something drift past his nose. He followed the trail up to the sky and felt his tense shoulders sag when he caught sight of the tiny flurries beginning to drift lazily from the clouds. The first snow of leaf-bare...how could this day get worse. "Snow..." he murmured and cursed under her breath. "I dont think we can track whatever attacked them now. It might just be best to bring Pearseed and Coldfire home for the vigil."
--
Wildcreek let silence settle over them for a few moments and watched as flurries began to fall on the mountain[. It filled her with an odd calmness that she was unused to but being up on her cliff with Raventail just set her at ease. She rose to her paws, ignoring the flurris beginning to cling to her long fur, and nudged his shoulder. "It will pass." she told him assuredly and swiped her tongue over his ear. "We should head back...the first snow is coming and I dont want us stranded out here if it gets bad."

Wolfgaze looked up when Nightweaver called her, giving a regretful shake of her head. Stepping over the patches of bloody grass, the gray warrior made her way back towards him. With it snowing, it seemed that the very sky was against them finding anything out about the killer. "There's a strange scent around one of the... er, bodies." she meowed quietly. "But I couldn't identify it. The snow will probably wash it away anyways, it'd be a miracle if we found the culprit." She sat down a short distance from the leader and curled her tail over her forepaws, hoping they would head home soon.

[[ Hey guys it's Falle. I really don't have much of an excuse for my sudden disappearance. Things have just been kinda busy for me and I sort of lost interest in the forums for a little while there. I feel bad for not mentioning anything at all, but I just couldn't really get myself to actually do it. Like, I'd think I'd be able to come back or at least mention why I was gone but I just didn't. Well I'm finally here again after so long. For all the years I've been on the forums, even if I get tired of it I always somehow wind back on just like now lol Anyways I'm slowly coming back and I want to get back into roleplaying again. Sadly not here though. It's probably for the best anyways if I take my leave in this Clan since it would be weird to try to jump back in to the groove of it again. I guess I just wanted to give my sincere apologies. Best of luck to you guys~ <3 ]]
